TRETIVA 20MG contains Isotretinoin which belongs to Retinoids.
WHAT TRETIVA 20MG IS USED FOR?
TRETIVA 20MG is used to treat the most severe form of acne (nodular acne)
INTERACTIONS:

Tetracycline antibiotics

Always take TRETIVA exactly as prescribed by your doctor
The amount of TRETIVA you take has been specially chosen for you. It is based on your body weight and may change during treatment
Swallow TRETIVA 20MG whole with a full glass of water
If you take more TRETIVA 20MG
If you take more TRETIVA, call your doctor right away
If you forget to take TRETIVA 20MG
If you miss a dose, just skip that dose. Do not take two doses at the same time
If you stop taking TRETIVA 20MG
Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor
SIDE EFFECTS OF TRETIVA 20MG
SERIOUS
- Mental health problems like depression or psychosis
- Inflammation of the liver, pancreas or intestine
- Bone and muscle changes
- Allergic reactions
- Increased pressure in the brain
- Hearing and vision differences
- Problems with blood sugar levels
COMMON
- Dry skin
- Chapped lips
- Dry eyes
- Dry nose (nosebleeds)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dry skin:
Apply moisturizer immediately after bathing. Avoid harsh and drying soaps.
Chapped lips:
Apply a non irritating lip balm (lip moisturizer) several times a day or whenever required. Use a non irritating lip balm with SPF 30 or higher before going outdoors.
STORAGE:
Store TRETIVA 20MG at room temperature (15-25°C)

Do not use this after the expiry date
Q. Is Tretiva Capsule safe to use?
It should be used with care since it is associated with significant adverse reactions. It should be used only for patients with severe nodular acne who are unresponsive to conventional therapy, including systemic antibiotics. In addition, Tretiva Capsule should not be used by pregnant women because it can cause severe birth defects.
Q. Is Tretiva Capsule a steroid?
No, It Capsule is a retinoid (vitamin A) that is used to treat severe types of acne.
Q. What are the recommended tests during Tretiva Capsule therapy?
Your liver enzymes and serum lipids will be checked before the treatment is started. These levels will also be monitored 1 month after the start of treatment and subsequently at 3 monthly intervals unless more frequent monitoring is clinically indicated.
Q. Is the effect of Tretiva Capsule permanent?
It has been observed in many patients that a single 15-20-week course effectively cures the condition and prevents it from coming back. If at all a second course is required, one should wait for at least 8 weeks after completion of the first course. This is because experience with Tretiva Capsule has shown that the symptoms in the patients with acne may continue to improve following treatment with Tretiva 20 Capsule.
Q. Why is Tretiva Capsule so dangerous during pregnancy?
If pregnancy occurs during treatment with Tretiva Capsule then, there is an extremely high risk that the baby may be born with severe birth defects.
Q. Can Tretiva Capsule cause cancer?
No, there are no reports of Tretiva 20 Capsule causing cancer. In fact, it may be useful in some forms of head, skin, and neck cancers.
Q. What are the long-term side effects of Tretiva Capsule?
A normal course of treatment for Tretiva Capsule is 15–20 weeks. Therefore, the long-term effects of low doses have not been studied. However, it may have some effect on bone mineral density. It may decrease bone mineral density in some patients, resulting in osteoporosis or fractures.
Q. Does Tretiva Capsule affect male fertility?
No, It Capsule does not affect the fertility of male patients. No significant effects were seen on ejaculate volume, sperm count, total sperm motility, morphology, or seminal plasma fructose.
Q. Does Tretiva Capsule damage your liver?
There may be a transient increase in liver enzymes with Tretiva 20 Capsule use. Therefore, regular laboratory tests are required. These values generally return to normal after some time. If the levels remain elevated for a long time, your doctor may discontinue the use of Tretiva 20 Capsule.

PREGNANCY
TRETIVA 20MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
BREASTFEEDING
TRETIVA 20MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause dry eyes, sight problems, drowsiness or dizziness.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with TRETIVA 20MG.
KIDNEY
TRETIVA 20MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
TRETIVA 20MG is not recommended in patients with active liver diseases. Before taking, discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
ALLERGY
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Isotretinoin.
HEART DISEASE
TRETIVA 20MG should be taken with caution in patients with heart disease. Consult your doctor for advice.
OTHERS
Inform your doctor before taking this medicine, if you have,
- Increased levels of vitamin A in body (Hypervitaminosis A)
- High levels of cholesterol or triglycerides in blood
- Mental health problems (depression, aggressive tendencies or mood changes)
- Asthma
- Wear contact lenses
- Diabetes
- Bone loss or weak bones
- Anorexia nervosa (where people eat too little)
INTERACTIONS
Talk to your doctor, if you are taking,
- Tetracyclines antibiotics
- Vitamin A supplements
- Progestin-only birth control pills (mini-pills)
- Medicines used to prevent epilepsy or seizures (e.g. phenytoin)
- Medicines used to treat mental problems (e.g. st John’s wort)
