Alzil 5 Tablet 10’s belongs to the group of medicines called ‘anti-Alzheimer’s drug’, primarily indicated in the treatment of dementia of the Alzheimer’s disease.

In Alzheimer’s disease, the brain cells degenerate and die, which causes a gradual decline in behavioural and social skills and thinking ability (dementia), which affects a person’s ability to function independently. The signs include confusion, increasing memory loss, and behavioural changes.

Alzil 5 Tablet 10’s contains Donepezil that falls in the category of drugs called acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. This drug increases the levels of a substance (acetylcholine) in the brain.

Take Tablet 10’s with or without a meal, every day as suggested by your doctor. A person taking Tablet 10’s may experience some undesirable effects of this medicine like insomnia, diarrhoea, muscle cramps, vomiting, fatigue, weight loss, and nausea.

This happens because the body is adjusting to the new medicine. If a person notices severe side effects of medicine like dizziness, constipation, drowsiness, fainting, frequent urination, headache, joint pain, mental depression, and pain, or if side effects do not go within a couple of days, then they need to consult with the doctor immediately.

A person cannot take Tablet 10’s if they are hypersensitive to any of the components present in this medicine. A person facing medical conditions like a heart rhythm disorder, a stomach ulcer, urination problems, asthma or other breathing disorder, seizure, and liver or kidney disease need to tell their doctor before taking this medicine.

A woman who is pregnant or breastfeeding needs to tell their doctor before taking this medicine. This medicine should be prescribed with caution in patients having a history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease.

DRIVING & USING MACHINES

KIDNEY

Take Alzil 5 Tablet 10’s after the recommendation of a doctor, especially if you have a history of Kidney diseases/conditions. The dosing strength needs to be adjusted by your doctor as required.

INTERACTIONS:

Tell the doctor about all the medicines the patient takes, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

ALZIL 5MG and other medicines may affect each other. Be particularly sure to tell the doctor if the patient takes

Medicines used for anesthesia
Aspirin or medicines called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)

DIRECTIONS & FOR USE:

Take ALZIL 5MG exactly as prescribed by the doctor
Do not stop ALZIL 5MG or change the dose yourself
Take ALZIL 5MG one time each day
It can be taken with or without food
If you take more

If the patient takes too much at one time, call the doctor go to the emergency room right away
If you forget to take ALZIL 5MG

If you miss giving the patient a dose of ALZIL 5MG, just wait. Give only the next dose at the usual time. Do not give 2 doses at the same time. If ALZIL 5MG is missed for 7 days or more, talk with the doctor before starting again
If you stop taking ALZIL 5MG

Do not stop taking ALZIL 5MG unless your doctor advice to do so

Q. Why is Alzil 5 Tablet taken at night?
Tablet is recommended to be taken before going to bed to reduce gastrointestinal side effects or nausea, which is commonly seen in some patients in the first few weeks of treatment.

Q. Do the gastrointestinal side effects due to Tablet persist for a long time?
Gastrointestinal side effects may appear during the first few weeks of treatment with Tablet. This can be minimized by taking Tablet at bedtime and with food. Generally, these side effects are mild and disappear within a few weeks with continued treatment.

Q. How long does it take for Alzil 5 Tablet to start working?
Within the first month of treatment with Tablet, you may experience improvement in thinking and remembering (cognitive effect). However, it may take about 12 weeks to see the full benefits.

Q. When should Alzil 5 Tablet be stopped?
Do not stop Tablet without consulting your doctor. This medicine only helps to control your condition but does not cure it. Therefore, it may take several weeks to show benefits, so do not be discouraged if you do not see an improvement straight away. But, in case your condition starts worsening and you feel that it is no longer helping you, then you should consult a doctor before stopping it.

Q. For how long does Alzil 5 Tablet stay in your system?
Tablet gets removed from the body very slowly. It takes about two weeks or more for Tablet to be completely removed from the system.

Q. Does Alzil 5 Tablet cause depression?
No, Alzil 5 Tablet does not cause depression. If you are experiencing symptoms, then it could be due to existing Alzheimer’s disease.

Q. What if I take more than the prescribed dose of Alzil 5 Tablet?
Taking more than the recommended dose of Tablet may cause vomiting, increased sweating or saliva production, slow heartbeat, dizziness, difficulty in breathing, seizures or fits, weakness, and inability to control your bowel motions or passing of urine (incontinence). You should seek immediate help from a doctor or emergency service of a nearby hospital.

Q. I have been taking indomethacin for arthritis. Can I take Tablet?
Alzil 5 Tablet does not interfere with the working of indomethacin, but indomethacin individually increases the risk of stomach bleeding when taken for a long time. Therefore, if you experience any symptoms of stomach bleeding, consult your doctor immediately.

Q. Does Alzil 5 Tablet cause hallucinations?
Hallucinations are a common side effect of Tablet, though not everyone is affected. Other common psychiatric side effects include agitation, aggressive behavior, nightmares, and abnormal dreams.

Q. Who should not takeTablet?
Tablet should not be taken by patients who have hypersensitivity to Tablet hydrochloride, piperidine derivatives, or to any active ingredients used in the medicine. Also, it should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly necessary.

Q. Can it cause insomnia?
Yes, insomnia (sleeplessness) is a common side effect of Tablet. Dizziness and fainting can also be seen as common side effects. Though these side effects are common, they do not occur in everyone.
