Exelon 1.5 mg Capsule
Exelon 1.5 mg Capsule is used to treat mild to moderate dementia in Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive illness that gradually affects memory and thinking.
It is also used for dementia-associated Parkinson’s disease. It does not cure these illnesses but may help improve memory, awareness, and other symptoms.
Your doctor will explain how to use Capsule. Follow the instructions carefully to get the most benefit. The dose may change from time to time to suit your individual needs.
You should not wear more than one patch at a time. Normally, you will use one new patch each day, and the place you apply it is changed to avoid skin irritation. It can take up to 4 weeks for the symptoms to improve, so keep wearing your patches regularly.
Some common side effects of this medicine include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, abdominal pain, headache, fainting, dizziness, anxiety, depression, delirium, agitation, urinary tract infection, urinary incontinence, rash, fever, weight loss, and application site reactions.
You may have side effects more often during the start of your treatment or when your dose is increased. Usually, the side effects will slowly go away as your body gets used to the medicine. If the side effects do not go away or if they become severe, you should remove your patch and contact your doctor.
Before using Capsule, you should tell your doctor if you have ever had heart problems, stomach ulcers, epilepsy, or asthma.
It may also affect, or be affected by, some other medicines you are using, so let your doctor know what these are to be safe. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

WHAT IS EXELON 1.5MG?
it contains rivastigmine which belongs to a class of substances called cholinesterase inhibitors
It works by blocking the enzymes that break down acetylcholine into acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, thereby increasing the levels of acetylcholine to be increased in the brain, helping to reduce the symptoms of Alzheimer?s disease and dementia associated with Parkinson?s disease
EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE belongs to a group of medicines called ‘anti-dementia agents’ used to treat mild to moderate dementia caused by Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease.
Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological disorder, which causes dementia (memory loss) and slowly destroys the ability to think, learn, communicate and handling daily activities. Parkinson’s disease is a central nervous system disorder that affects movement leading to shaking, stiffness and difficulty with walking, balance and coordination.
EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE contains ‘Rivastigmine’ that belongs to the class of ‘Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitors’. Rivastigmine increases acetylcholine (a brain chemical) levels allowing the nerve cells to communicate.
It restores the balance of neurotransmitters and improves mental function, such as memory and thinking. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that transmit the message from one nerve cell to another nerve cell, muscle cell or a gland cell.
EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE is available in oral tablet, capsule, liquid and transdermal patch formulation. Your doctor will decide the dose and duration based on the severity of your disease.
Common side effects of EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE include nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, dizziness, drowsiness, shakiness (tremor), weakness and loss of appetite.
These side effects are not familiar to everyone and vary individually. If you notice any side effects that are not manageable, please consult your doctor.
Let your doctor know if you use any prescription and non-prescription medications you are taking, including other vitamins, before starting CAPSULE.

Drug Warnings
Let your doctor know if you use any other medicines or supplements before using CAPSULE. Brief your medical history if you have any liver or kidney diseases, breathing problems (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)), stomach/intestinal problems (ulcers, bleeding), heart diseases (sick sinus syndrome and other conduction disorders), fainting, fits, urination problems and enlarged prostate.
Do not apply another patch when you are already using a patch since it can lead to overdosing of CAPSULE. It is not known if EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE is released into breast milk. Please consult your doctor know if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or a breastfeeding mother.
Avoid consuming alcohol along with CAPSULE as it might lead to increased side effects. Store EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE below 25°C away from direct sunlight. Avoid driving or operating machinery as EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE causes dizziness and sleepiness. CAPSULE is not recommended for children below 18years as the safety and effectiveness have not been established.
Drug Interactions
Drug-Drug Interaction: CAPSULE may interact with pain killers (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen), cough and cold medicines (Benadryl), vomiting medicine (metoclopramide), drugs treating frequent urination (oxybutynin, tolterodine) and high blood pressure medicine (atenolol).
Drug-Food Interaction: Do not consume alcohol while taking CAPSULE as it could lead to increased dizziness and drowsiness.
Drug-Disease Interaction: Before using CAPSULE, let your doctor know if you have any liver or kidney diseases, breathing problems (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)), stomach/intestinal problems (ulcers, bleeding), heart diseases (sick sinus syndrome and other conduction disorders), fainting, fits, urination problems and enlarged prostate.

Talk to your doctor before taking EXELON 1.5MG, if you:
Are allergic to rivastigmine, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
Have or ever had irregular or slow heartbeat
Have or ever had stomach ulcer
Have or ever had asthma or severe respiratory disease
Have or ever had difficulties in passing urine
Have or ever had seizures(fits)
Have gastro-intestinal reactions such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea
Have a low body weight
Suffer from trembling
Have liver or kidney problems
Are undergoing surgery
PREGNANCY & BREAST FEEDING
capsule should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly necessary
You should not breast-feed during treatment with EXELON 1.5MG capsule
Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
DRIVING & USING MACHINES
EXELON 1.5MG may cause dizziness and somnolence, mainly at the start of treatment or when increasing the dose
If you feel dizzy or sleepy, do not drive or use machines
INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you are taking,
Anticholinergic medicines (used to relieve stomach cramps or spasms, to treat Parkinson?s disease or to prevent travel sickness)
Beta-blockers (medicines such as atenolol used to treat hypertension, angina and other heart conditions
Metoclopramide (a medicine used to relieve or prevent nausea and vomiting)
DIRECTIONS & FOR USE:
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
The highest dose that should be taken is 6.0 mg twice a day
Take EXELON 1.5MG twice a day, in the morning and evening, with food
Swallow the capsule whole with a drink of water
Do not open or crush the capsule
If you take more EXELON 1.5MG
If you accidentally take more EXELON 1.5MG than you should, contact your doctor
In case of overdose you may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, high blood pressure and hallucinations, slow heartbeat and fainting
If you forget to take EXELON 1.5MG
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue as usual
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking EXELON 1.5MG
Don?t stop taking EXELON 1.5MG without consulting your doctor
STORAGE:
Keep this medicine out of reach of children
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
Store at room temperature (15-25°C)

ALCOHOL
It is advised to limit alcohol consumption while taking EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE. Alcohol intake, along with EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE, may cause increased dizziness and drowsiness. Please consult your doctor for more information.

PREGNANCY
EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE is a pregnancy category B drug. EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE should be used during pregnancy only if the benefit outweighs the risk. Please consult your doctor before taking EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE if you are pregnant or planning to conceive.

It is not known if EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE is excreted into the breast milk. Please consult your doctor before taking EXELON 1.5MG CAPSULE if you are a breastfeeding mother.
