Lapezil 5Mg Tablet belongs to the group of medicines called ‘anti-Alzheimer’s drug’, primarily indicated in the treatment of dementia of the Alzheimer’s disease.
In Alzheimer’s disease, the brain cells degenerate and die, which causes a gradual decline in behavioural and social skills and thinking ability (dementia), which affects a person’s ability to function independently.
The signs include confusion, increasing memory loss, and behavioural changes.
Lapezil 5Mg Tablet contains Donepezil that falls in the category of drugs called acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. This drug increases the levels of a substance (acetylcholine) in the brain, which is involved in improving memory functioning by slowing down the breakdown of acetylcholine (a substance that allows nerves to communicate and important for normal brain functioning).
Take Lapezil 5Mg Tablet with or without a meal, every day as suggested by your doctor. A person taking Lapezil 5Mg Tablet may experience some undesirable effects of this medicine like insomnia, diarrhoea, muscle cramps, vomiting, fatigue, weight loss, and nausea.
This happens because the body is adjusting to the new medicine. If a person notices severe side effects of medicine like dizziness, constipation, drowsiness, fainting, frequent urination, headache, joint pain, mental depression, and pain, or if side effects do not go within a couple of days, then they need to consult with the doctor immediately.
A person cannot take Lapezil 5Mg Tablet if they are hypersensitive to any of the components present in this medicine. A person facing medical conditions like a heart rhythm disorder, a stomach ulcer, urination problems, asthma or other breathing disorder, seizure, and liver or kidney disease need to tell their doctor before taking this medicine.
A woman who is pregnant or breastfeeding needs to tell their doctor before taking this medicine. This medicine should be prescribed with caution in patients having a history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease.

The dose may change from time to time to suit your individual needs. It can take up to a few weeks for symptoms to improve so keep taking your medicine regularly. You should not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor.
Some common side effects of this medicine include nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, vomiting, muscle cramps, fatigue, and weight loss (anorexia). Drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated.
You may have side effects more often when you start your treatment or when your dose is increased. Usually, the side effects will slowly go away as your body gets used to the Tablet. If they are severe or will not go away, you should contact your doctor.
Before using Tablet, you should tell your doctor if you have ever had heart problems, stomach ulcers, epilepsy, or asthma.
It may also affect, or be affected by, some other drugs you are using so let your doctor know what these are to be safe. During pregnancy, this medicine should only be taken if it is advised.

Tablet may cause side effects like nausea, vomiting, headache, diarrhoea, common cold, loss of appetite, dizziness, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or become severe.
Tablet can be taken with or without food as directed by your doctor. The dose and duration of treatment will be decided by your doctor based on the severity of your condition. Avoid taking more than the prescribed dose as it may cause severe side effects.

Safety Advice
ALCOHOL
You are recommended to avoid alcohol consumption while taking Lapezil 5Mg Tablet. Alcohol intake, along with Lapezil 5Mg Tablet, can worsen the symptoms of dementia.
PREGNANCY
Lapezil 5Mg Tablet can only be used in pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the unborn baby.
BREAST FEEDING
It is not known if Lapezil 5Mg Tablet passes into breast milk or not. Breast-feeding women should ask their doctor before using this medication.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:
TALK TO DOCTOR
Talk to your doctor before taking LAPEZIL 5MG, if you:
Are allergic to any of the ingredients in Donepezil or to medicines that contain piperidines
Have any heart problems including problems with irregular, slow, or fast heartbeats
Suffer from asthma or lung problems
Suffer from a seizure
Have stomach ulcers
Have difficulty in passing urine
Have liver or kidney problems
Have trouble swallowing tablets
Have or had surgery or dental surgery
PREGNANCY & BREAST FEEDING
It is not known if LAPEZIL 5MG can harm an unborn baby
LAPEZIL 5MG is not for women who are breast-feeding. It is not known if passes into breast milk
Consult your doctor for advice if you are pregnant or breast feeding or planning to become pregnant
CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS
LAPEZIL 5MG has not been approved as a treatment for any medical condition in children
DRIVING & USING MACHINES
LAPEZIL 5MG medicine can cause tiredness, dizziness and muscle cramp. If you experience any of these affects you must not drive or operate machinery
INTERACTIONS:
Tell the doctor about all the medicines the patient takes, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
LAPEZIL 5MG and other medicines may affect each other. Be particularly sure to tell the doctor if the patient takes
Medicines used for anesthesia
Aspirin or medicines called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
DIRECTIONS & FOR USE:
Take LAPEZIL 5MG exactly as prescribed by the doctor
Do not stop LAPEZIL 5MG or change the dose yourself
Take LAPEZIL 5MG one time each day
It can be taken with or without food
If you take more LAPEZIL 5MG
If the patient takes too much LAPEZIL 5MG at one time, call the doctor go to the emergency room right away
If you forget to take LAPEZIL 5MG
If you miss giving the patient a dose of LAPEZIL 5MG, just wait. Give only the next dose at the usual time. Do not give 2 doses at the same time. If LAPEZIL 5MG is missed for 7 days or more, talk with the doctor before starting again
If you stop taking LAPEZIL 5MG
Do not stop taking LAPEZIL 5MG unless your doctor advice to do so
STORAGE:
Store LAPEZIL 5MG at room temperature (15-25°C)
Keep this medicine out of reach of children
Do not take this medicine after the expiry date
