Ipravent Respules
ABOUT THE DRUG:
Ipratropium bromide also sold under the trade name Atrovent, Ipravent among several other trade names is an anticholinergic bronchodilator. Respules are among the most preferred dosage forms for delivering medicine to the asthma patients. This dosage form renders targeted delivery of the drug at the site of action.
USES OF THE DRUG:
This medication is used to ease breathing in people with diseases like asthma, emphysema (a serious condition that makes breathing difficult), and chronic obstructive bronchitis.
WORKING OF THE DRUG:
Ipratropium bromide works by relaxing muscles of the air passages, thereby increasing the flow of air to the lungs and hence improving breathing in people suffering from asthma and other breathing difficulties. It may also be used for treatment of other conditions not mentioned above.
DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG IF YOU:
Are allergic to Ipratropium or atropine.
Have glaucoma before using this medication
You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or breast feeding your baby.
This medication is not recommended to use in children without a doctor?s advice.
TELL YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU:
Have enlarged prostate; bladder obstruction; or urination problems
HOW MUCH TO TAKE THE DRUG?
You must use Ipratropium bromide medication exactly and strictly as advised by your doctor. Any changes or disobedience of your doctor?s prescription may lead to deterioration of your condition.
HOW TO TAKE THE DRUG?
All medications come with a patient leaflet which has complete information about them. Read it carefully for details.
Do not swallow Respules. This is intended to be taken by inhalation only, using your Rota haler. Rinse your mouth after using as it helps to avoid any kind of throat irritation and dry mouth like conditions.
Open the Rota haler capsule by holding it in a horizontal position by keeping white spot up and lighter colored end in the opposite direction.
Then gently breathe out and seal your lips around the mouthpiece. Take a full, deep breath in your mouth and hold your breath for up to ten seconds. After that, take normal breath and throw away the empty capsule shell.
Contact your doctor immediately if your condition doesn’t improve and deteriorates further. While using Ipratropium bromide, your lung function may need to be tested frequently.
Keep the medicine canister away from open flame and intense heat, such as in direct sunlight on a hot day. The canister can explode if it gets too hot.
Avoid puncturing or burning an empty Respules canister. Store the medication and Respules device in a cool and dry place. Ensure that your children and pets don’t have access to any medication.
FOR HOW LONG TO TAKE?
Take the drug as long as the doctor recommends you. It is an Respules form of the drug and you can use the Respules to get quick relief from an asthma attack. Be sure to take the as per doctor?s prescription.
OVERDOSE:
Don?t overdose on any medication. If you have taken an overdose and if you experience any worsening health condition, get emergency medical help or call your doctor immediately.
MISS DOSE:
If you miss a dose due to some reasons, take it as soon as you remember it and if the time to take the next dose is not near. If the next dose is overdue within a short time, then forget about the missed dose and take the next dose as scheduled. Do not take double doses to compensate for the missed one.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:
Do not let the medicine to enter into your eyes, if this occurs then flush your eyes with the tap or cold water for many minutes
Do not give the medicine to anyone else, even if they have the same symptoms as you have
Always store the medicine in upright position

To overcome dry mouth, it is advised to increase water intake, carry sugar candy or maintain good oral hygiene.
Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have liver or kidney disease, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works.
If you experience dizziness or blurred vision, then avoid driving or attention-seeking activity.
