Ganaton tablet contains itopride hydrochloride which belongs to the group of medicines called orally active gastroprokinetic agent. These tablets are formulated in sustained-release manner to achieve an optimum concentration of the drug over a period of time. It is indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal symptoms caused by reduced gastrointestinal motility, like feeling of fullness, upper abdominal pain, anorexia, heartburn, nausea and vomiting; non-ulcer dyspepsia or chronic gastritis. Itopride hydrochloride improves the motility of gastrointestinal tract and prevent from nausea and vomiting. It activates gastrointestinal propulsive motility due to its dopamine D2 antagonizing activity and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity. Itopride activates acetylcholine release and inhibits its degradation which in turn, promotes gastric motility and accelerates gastric emptying.
The most common side effects of this medicine are diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, headache, fatigue and impaired sleeping. This medicine should be taken once daily before meals. USES OF GANATON TABLET:
It is used to treat gastrointestinal symptoms like chronic gastritis, sensation of bloating, stomach, upper abdominal pain or discomfort, loss of appetite, heartburn, nausea and vomiting.
HOW GANATON TABLET WORKS?
Itopride hydrochloride inhibits the enzyme called anticholinesterase which prevents the degradation of acetylcholine in the gut wall. As a result of this, the concentration of acetylcholine increases, which in turn, promotes gastric motility, increases the lower esophageal sphincter pressure, accelerates gastric emptying and improves gastro-duodenal coordination.
HOW TO USE GANATON TABLET?
Always take Ganaton tablet exactly as your doctor has told you. It should be swallowed whole with a drink of water. It should be taken three times a day before meals.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS?
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines to treat diarrhoea without speaking to a doctor.
Constipation:
Eat fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly and go for a daily walk or run.
Stomach pain:
Eat and drink slowly or have smaller and more frequent meals. Keep a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.
Headache:
Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Do not drink too much alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:
PREGNANCY
It should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking.
BREAST FEEDING
It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your Doctor.
GI DISORDERS
Ganaton 50 tablet should not be used in patients in whom an increase in gastrointestinal motility could be harmful, e.g. gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation
ELDERLY PATIENTS
Ganaton 50 tablet should be used with caution in elderly patient, as risk of decreased hepatic and renal function can occur.
INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following:
Talk to your doctor, if you are taking,
anticholinergic agents (e.g. atropine, belladonna alkaloids, clidinium, cyclopentolate, darifenacin or dicylomine)
