WHAT IS ALFACAL PLUS?
ALFACAL PLUS contains Alfacalcidol (vitamin D3) and Calcium carbonate which is indicated as a calcium supplement in deficiency states during growth and in the prevention and adjunct treatment of senile, postmenopausal and corticosteroid induced osteoporosis
WHAT ALFACAL PLUS IS USED FOR?
ALFACAL PLUS contains the below mentioned components, which have the following uses:
Vitamin D3 (Alfacalcidol):
Is a fat-soluble vitamin D analogue, which helps to increase intestinal absorption of calcium, and acts as a regulator of calcium and phosphate metabolism
Calcium carbonate:
Is necessary mainly for bone formation and maintenance, and to maintain stores of phosphorus in the intestine
WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS:

Talk to your doctor before using ALFACAL PLUS, if you:
Are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients in the medicine
Have hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, vitamin D over-dosage
Have sarcoidosis
Suffer from primary hyperparathyroidism
Have renal failure and/or renal stones, for in that case, you should ensure that you go for periodic checks and close monitoring of plasma serum calcium and phosphate levels, and urinary calcium excretion levels
Are undergoing treatment for cardiovascular disease
Have any other chronic or acute medical conditions
PREGNANCY & BREAST FEEDING
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using ALFACAL PLUS
CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS
Ask your doctor for advice before giving ALFACAL PLUS to your children
DRIVING & USING MACHINES
ALFACAL will usually not affect your ability to drive and use machines
INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you might take any other medicines such as:
Tetracycline antibiotics like minocycline etc. (used to treat bacterial infections)
Quinolone antibiotics like ciprofloxacin etc. (used to treat bacterial eye infections)
Bisphosphonates (used to treat osteoporosis)
Thyroxine (used to treat thyroid hormone deficiency)
Water pills (thiazide diuretics ? used to treat high blood pressure and kidney conditions)
Phenytoin, barbiturates (used to treat seizures, epilepsy and other brain related disorders)
Glucocorticoids (used for anti-inflammatory effects)
Digitalis, other cardiac glycosides (used to treat several heart conditions)
Iron supplements
Other vitamins, minerals, herbal supplements you may have obtained without a prescription
DIRECTIONS & FOR USE:
Always take ALFACAL exactly as your doctor has told you
Continue to follow any advice about diet recommended by your doctor
If you take more ALFACAL
If you, either accidentally, or just happen to take more than the prescribed dose of this medicine, contact your doctor or the nearest emergency department, at once
If you forget to take ALFACAL
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember
If you do not remember until it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule
Do not take a double dose of this medicine
If you stop taking ALFACAL
Do not stop taking this medicine until your doctor tells you to do so

Vomiting
Stomach upset
Headache
Skin rashes
Other allergic reactions
STORAGE
Keep out of reach of children
Do not use after the expiry date
Store at room temperature (15-25?C)
