WHAT IS DOXAZOSIN MESYLATE?
Doxazosin Mesylate is a drug which belongs to a family of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers. It is sold under the trade names Cardura, Doxacard 4 (made by Cipla) among several other brand names that are sold in various countries. Doxazosin Mesylate is prescribed primarily for the treatment of high blood pressure, and to improve urination in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate which makes urination difficult). This medicine may also be used for conditions not listed here.
Doxazosin Mesylate medication helps in relaxing the blood vessels (veins and arteries) so that blood can flow smoothly through them without any difficulty. This medicine also relaxes muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, thereby making urination easier in people with enlarged bladder.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT DOXAZOSIN MESYLATE:
Doxazosin Mesylate (Cardura, Doxacard 4) is not recommended for people who are allergic to it, or if they are already taking similar medications like alfuzosin, prazosin, terazosin, silodosin, or tamsulosin. Doxazosin Mesylate is known to affect pupils during cataract surgery. Inform your eye surgeon well in advance that you are taking this medication. Don?t stop if without your surgeons advice.
You may experience fainting or giddiness in the initial days of starting Doxazosin Mesylate or when you take it after a long time. This may impact some of your activities like driving which requires much attention and focus so be careful. Don?t stand upright for a long period, exert yourself more during an exercise, or go outside in hot weather. Don?t get up suddenly from a sitting or lying position otherwise you may feel dizzy.
If you have liver disease or a history of prostate cancer, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take Doxazosin Mesylate. Inform your doctor in advance if you have any of these conditions. Certain drugs may interact with Doxazosin Mesylate. Let your doctor know about all medications which you use currently.
Doxazosin Mesylate is an FDA pregnancy category C drug. It is not known whether this medicine can harm an unborn baby if taken during pregnancy. It is also not known whether Doxazosin Mesylate can pass into breast milk and harm a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before taking Doxazosin Mesylate if any of these cases apply to you.

Before taking Doxazosin Mesylate (Cardura, Doxacard), take care of all precautions mentioned above. Discuss them with your doctor and clear all doubts which you may have about this drug.
HOW SHOULD I TAKE DOXAZOSIN MESYLATE?
Take Doxazosin Mesylate (Cardura, Doxacard) strictly as advised by your doctor. Don?t alter the course of the medication in any way, either by amount or by duration. Your doctor may advise you to change the dose sometimes to ensure proper treatment. All medications come with a patient leaflet. Refer it for more details if you have any doubts, or call your doctor or pharmacist.
Doxazosin Mesylate lowers blood pressure and may lead to dizziness or fainting, especially in the initial period after starting it, or when you restart the medication after a long time. Notify your doctor if you experience severe dizziness, or feel like you may faint.
When you first wake up after taking Doxazosin Mesylate, you may feel very dizzy so take care while standing up from a sitting or lying position. You will be required to get your blood pressure and prostate checked at regular intervals. Don?t forget to visit your doctor regularly.
Some factors can lead to low blood pressure while taking Doxazosin Mesylate like vomiting, diarrhea, heavy sweating, heart disease, low salt diet, heart disease, or taking diuretics (water pills). Let your doctor know if you have an extended period of illness that causes diarrhea or vomiting. Always store Doxazosin Mesylate in a cool and dry place.
WHAT IF I MISS A DOSE?
If you miss a dose of Doxazosin Mesylate, take it as soon as you remember it. However, skip the missed dose if the time to take the next dose is near. Don?t take extra medication or two doses near to each other to compensate for the missed dose.
WHAT IF I OVERDOSE?
Get emergency medical attention or call the Doctor Immediately if you take an overdose of Doxazosin Mesylate and experience serious symptoms which may include severe dizziness and fainting.
WHAT SHOULD I AVOID WHILE TAKING DOXAZOSIN MESYLATE?
Your thinking capability and reflexes may be impacted after taking Doxazosin Mesylate (Cardura, Doxacard). Be sure not to do an activity that requires greater mental alertness and reflexes like driving. Avoid alcohol as it can increase the likelihood of some side effects of Doxazosin Mesylate.
Don?t stand for a long time or exert more during an exercise otherwise you may feel dizzy. Also, while getting up from a sitting and lying position do it slowly and don?t get up suddenly or you may feel dizzy and might fall as well.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER DRUGS:
Certain drugs can interact with Doxazosin Mesylate (Cardura, Doxacard) such as Sildenafil, Tadalafil, Vardenafil, or other blood pressure medicines, including diuretics.
The list of drugs above which can interact with Doxazosin Mesylate is not a complete one and there may be other drugs which can interact with it. Always consult your doctor before starting a new medication and before stopping or altering the course of any existing ones.
PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Doxacard 4 Tablet may be prescribed alone or in combination with other medicines. It can be taken with or without food. The dose will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. Follow the advice of your doctor on what is right for you. You need to use this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it so keep taking it even if you feel well. High blood pressure does not usually have symptoms. If you stop taking it, your blood pressure may rise and put you at risk of heart attack or stroke. You may need to take it for the rest of your life.

If you are pregnant, thinking about becoming pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor before using this medicine. Also talk to your doctor before taking it if have heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disease and if you are having eye surgery for a cataract.
