WHAT IS MINOCYCLINE HCL?
Minocycline HCl is a tetracycline antibiotic prescribed for the treatment of skin infections, and severe acne. This medicine is also used in the treatment of many other bacterial infections, such as urinary tract infections, acne, gonorrhea, chlamydia, periodontitis (gum disease), and others.
Minocycline HCl is sold under various brands, some of which are Minocin, CNN-Tab (made by Intas Pharma), and Cynomycin (Wyeth Pharma)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT MINOCYCLINE HCL:
Do not take Minocycline HCl if you have a known allergy to it, or to other tetracycline antibiotics such as demeclocycline, minocycline, or tetracycline. Prior to taking this medicine, notify your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, asthma, or if you have allergy to sulfites.
Minocycline HCl can interfere with the working of birth control pills and make them less effective. It is recommended that you use a non hormonal form of birth control such as condom, diaphragm, or spermicidal while taking this medicine.
Minocycline HCl is not recommended for children. This medicine can cause permanent yellowing or graying of the teeth in children younger than 8 years old.
Drink plenty of liquids while you are taking Minocycline HCl. Complete the full course of this medicine as prescribed even after your symptoms are cleared or gone. Not completing the full course of an antibiotic may lead to a relapse of your condition which can be drug resistant and difficult to treat.
Minocycline HCl is an FDA pregnancy category D drug. Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Tell your doctor if you become pregnant while taking this medicine.
BEFORE TAKING MINOCYCLINE HCL:
Before taking Minocycline HCl (Minocin, CNN-Tab, Cynomycin), take care of all precautions mentioned above. Discuss them with your doctor and clear all doubts which you may have about this drug.
HOW SHOULD I TAKE MINOCYCLINE HCL?
Take Minocycline HCl (Minocin, CNN-Tab, Cynomycin) strictly according to your doctors direction or according to the instructions on the medication label. Do not alter the dosage unless your doctor advises you to do so. Also, do not take this medication after the prescribed period is over. All medications come with a patient leaflet. Refer the instructions in them for detailed information on that particular medication.
Take Minocycline HCl at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Always store this medicine in a cool and dry place.
WHAT IF I MISS A DOSE?
If you miss a dose of Minocycline HCl, take it as soon as you remember. Dont take the missed dose if the time to take the next dose is almost up. Taking multiple doses near to each other can lead to excess medication in your body which can be harmful.
WHAT IF I OVERDOSE?
In case of an overdose of Minocycline HCl, get emergency medical attention or call the Poison helpline at 1-800-222-1222. Overdose may lead to nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
THINGS AND ACTIVITIES TO AVOID WHILE TAKING MINOCYCLINE HCL:
Antibiotics can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you get watery or bloody diarrhea, stop taking Minocycline HCl and call your doctor immediately. Do not use anti diarrhea medicine without asking your doctor. Do not take iron supplements, multivitamins, calcium supplements, antacids, or laxatives within 2 hours before or after taking Minocycline HCl.
Avoid sunlight or artificial UV light exposure (sunlamps or tanning beds). Minocycline HCl can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight and you can easily get sunburned. If you must venture out in the sun, use a proper sunscreen (minimum SPF of 15) and wear proper protective clothing.

MINOCYCLINE HCL DOSING INFORMATION:
Minocycline HCl dosage may depend on a range of factors like age, sex, drug allergies, or seriousness of the condition among several other factors. Your dosage will be determined by your doctor after examining you properly. Remember to follow your doctors advice properly for best results.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER DRUGS:
Other drugs can interact with Minocycline HCl. Notify your doctor if you use any of the following medicines: other antibiotics, methotrexate, acetaminophen, antifungal medicines, migraine medicines, heart or blood pressure medicines, cholesterol lowering medicines such as cholestyramine or cholestipol, isotretinoin, tretinoin, antacids, NSAIDs, blood thinner like warfarin, multi vitamins and multi minerals, or penicillin antibiotics (amoxicillin, ampicillin, dicloxacillin, and others.
These are not the only drugs that can interact with Minocycline HCl. There may be others. Never start a new medication without taking proper medical advice.
PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Cynomycin 50 Capsule is also used to treat many sexually transmitted diseases and a skin condition known as acne. It may be taken with or without food. However, you should take it regularly at evenly spaced intervals as per the schedule prescribed by your doctor. Taking it at the same time every day will help you to remember to take it. The dose will depend on what you are being treated for, but you should always complete a full course of this antibiotic as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking it until you have finished, even when you feel better. If you stop taking it early, some bacteria may survive and the infection may come back.
Commonly seen side effects seen with this medicine include headache, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and skin reaction on exposure to sunlight (photosensitivity). Avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. These are usually temporary and subside with the completion of treatment. Consult your doctor if you find these side effects bother or worry you.
Inform your doctor if you have any previous history of allergy to any antibiotic or liver or kidney problems before taking this medicine. You should also let your doctor know all other medicines you are taking as they may affect, or be affected by this medicine. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using it. It may blur your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
