WHAT IS ACIVIR 400 DT?
ACIVIR DT 400MG contains Acyclovir which belongs to antivirals. It works by killing or stopping the growth of viruses
WHAT ACIVIR 400 DT IS USED FOR?
ACIVIR DT 400MG is used to
Treat chickenpox and shingles
Treat cold sores, genital herpes and other herpes simplex infections
WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS:

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:
Are allergic to Acyclovir or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
Have kidney problems
Are over 65 years of age
PREGNANCY & BREAST FEEDING
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS
Your child?s doctor will recommend ACIVIR DT 400MG for the treatment of neonatal HSV and severe HSV infection, if your child?s immune system is not working properly
INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken any of the following medicine such as:
Probenecid, used to treat gout
Cimetidine, used to treat stomach ulcers
Mycophenolate mofetil, used to stop your body from rejecting transplanted organs
DIRECTIONS & FOR USE:
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor told you
Take this medicine by mouth
Treatment of chickenpox and shingles
The usual dose is one 800 mg tablet taken five times a day
You should space each dose by 4 hours
Suggested times are: 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm and 11pm
Treatment of cold sores and genital herpes
The usual dose is one 200 mg tablet taken five times a day
You should space each dose by 4 hours
Suggested times are: 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm and 11pm
You should take Acivir 400 DT for five days, or longer if your doctor tells you to take
If you take more Acivir 400 DT
Talk to your doctor if you take more ACIVIR DT 400MG
If you forget to take Acivir 400 DT
If you forget to take Acivir 400 DT, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking Acivir 400 DT
Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor
SIDE EFFECTS OF ACIVIR DT 400MG:
SERIOUS
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Allergic reactions such as,
Rash, itching or hives on the skin
Swelling of your face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body
Shortness of breath, wheezing or trouble in breathing
Collapse
COMMON
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Headache
Feeling dizzy
Diarrhea
Stomach pain
Skin reaction after exposure to light (photosensitivity)
Itching
Unexplained fever (high temperature) and feeling faint, especially when standing up
UNCOMMON
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Itchy, hive-like rash
Hair loss
RARE
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Increases in the liver enzymes
Effects on some blood and urine tests
VERY RARE
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Reduced numbers of red blood cells (anaemia), white blood cells (leukopenia), blood platelets (cells that help blood to clot) (thrombocytopenia)
Feeling agitated or confused
Shaking or tremors
Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren?t there)
Fits
Feeling unusually sleepy or drowsy
Unsteadiness when walking and lack of coordination
Difficulty in speaking
Inability to think or judge clearly
Unconsciousness
Paralysis of part or whole body
Disturbances of behaviour, speech and eye movements
Stiff neck and sensitivity to light
Inflammation of the liver (hepatitis)
Yellowing of your skin and eyes (jaundice)
Kidney problems where you pass little or no urine
Pain in your lower back, the kidney area of your back or just above your hip
STORAGE:
Keep this medicine out of reach of children
Store at room temperature (15-25°C)
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
