What is TOPAZ 100MG?
TOPAZ 100MG contains Topiramate which belongs to the group of medicines called antiepileptics
Topaz 100 Tablet is a medicine used to treat epilepsy (seizures) and to prevent migraines. It is also used in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a rare, but severe form of epilepsy that starts in early childhood).
Tablet may be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time, each day. If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
Stopping the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor may cause an increased frequency of seizures. Your doctor may advise regular monitoring of serum bicarbonate levels while you are taking this medicine.
Some of the common side effects of this medicine include nausea, taste change, fatigue, diarrhea, weight loss, loss of appetite, and memory impairment. It may also cause vision problems like myopia or glaucoma, so it is important to get your eyesight checked before you start the treatment and regularly thereafter.

What is used for?
It is used,
To treat certain types of seizures and generalized tonic- clonic seizures
In combination with other medicines to treat certain types of seizures (partial onset seizures, primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures and seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome)
To prevent migraine headaches

Have or have had depression, mood problems or suicidal thoughts or behavior
Have kidney problems, have kidney stones, or are getting kidney dialysis
Have a history of metabolic acidosis (too much acid in the blood)
Have liver problems
Have weak, brittle or soft bones (osteomalacia, osteoporosis, osteopenia, or decreased bone density)
Have lung or breathing problems
Have eye problems, especially glaucoma
Have diarrhoea
Have a growth problem
Are on a diet high in fat and low in carbohydrates, which is called a ketogenic diet
Are having surgery
Pregnancy & Breast Feeding
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or breast feeding
Children & Adolescents

Interactions
Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Valproic acid
Any medicines that impair or decrease your thinking, concentration or muscle coordination

Directions & For Use
Take TOPAZ 100MG exactly as prescribed by your doctor
Your healthcare provider may change your dose. Do not change your dose without talking to your healthcare provider
It should be swallowed whole. Do not chew the tablet. They may leave a bitter taste
This medicine can be taken before, during, or after a meal. Drink plenty of fluids during the day This may help prevent kidney stones while taking TOPAZ 100MG

If you take too much TOPAZ 100MG
If you take too much TOPAZ 100MG, call your healthcare provider and go to the nearest emergency room
If you miss a single dose of TOPAZ 100MG
Take it as soon as you can. Do not double your dose
If you stop taking TOPAZ 100MG
Do not stop taking TOPAZ 100MG without talking to your healthcare provider. Stopping this medicine suddenly may cause serious problems
Serious
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
High blood ammonia levels such as affect your mental activities, slow your alertness, make you feel tired or cause vomiting
Kidney stones
Low body temperature
Effects on thinking and alertness such as affect how you think and cause confusion, problems with concentration, attention, memory or speech

Drug Warnings
Topaz 100 Tablet 10’s may cause a congenital disability called cleft lip in unborn baby, so the use of this medicine is not allowed in pregnant females. Tablet 10’s may increase the body temperature and reduce sweating, so one should report it to the doctor if they are noticing decreased sweating and hot, dry skin.
tablet 10’s may enhance the level of acid in the blood so one should tell their doctor if they have irregular heartbeats or loss of hunger. Before taking Topaz 100 Tablet 10’s, tell the doctor if you have diarrhoea, metabolic acidosis, eye problems, liver disease.
Topaz 100 Tablet 10’s may affect the working of contraceptives that include the combined pill, vaginal ring, patches,progestogen-only contraceptive pill, and emergency contraception. So, one should tell their doctor if they are using any contraceptives to prevent pregnancy.
Drug Interactions
Drug-Drug Interaction: A person should tell the doctor about all the medications they are using, including the medicines used to treat diabetes (metformin, glibenclamide, pioglitazone), medicines used to treat depression or anxiety (venlafaxine, amitriptyline), medicines for heart or blood pressure (diltiazem, hydrochlorothiazide, propranolol), antipsychotic medicines (risperidone), and or any other epilepsy medicines.
Drug-Food Interaction: The use of alcohol with Tablet 10’s is restricted as alcohol may worsen the side effects of the medicine.
Drug-Disease Interaction: The use of Tablet 10’s is restricted in patients dealing with bone marrow depression/blood dyscrasias, hyperthermia, severe liver disease, suicidal tendency, renal dysfunction, metabolic acidosis, angle-closure glaucoma, hemodialysis, and nephrolithiasis
