ABOUT THE DRUG:
Metoprolol succinate is the drug that is prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure or hypertension. There are numerous anti-hypertensive drugs that are available in the market for the control of cardiovascular problems. Some people may require more than one drug to control the elevated systolic or diastolic pressure. The drug metoprolol succinate is also prescribed for angina pectoris or angina attack and heart failure too.

WORKING OF THE DRUG:
Metoprolol succinate is a beta blocker drug that works by lowering the high blood pressure. This drug blocks the working of certain chemicals in the body, such as epinephrine that hampers the working of the heart and blood vessels.
In this way this drug lowers the heart rate and reduces the pressure on the heart.
DO NOT TAKE THE DRUG IF YOU:
Have an allergy to Metoprolol Succinate or any other ingredient of the drug
Are lactating mother
Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
TELL YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU:
Have kidney disease
Have severe Bradycardia
Have had a cardiogenic shock
Have diabetes
Have liver problems, etc.
HOW MUCH TO TAKE THE DRUG?
Always take the drug as prescribed by the doctor. The dose, strength depends upon the condition for which the drug is being administered.
FOR HYPERTENSION:
Adults: 25-100 mg dose once in a day.
Patient ? 6 years: dose should not increase 50 mg a day.
Pediatric patient < 6 years: Not recommended.
FOR ANGINA PECTORIS:
100 mg once in a day is generally recommended.
FOR HEART FAILURE:
General recommendation is 25 mg once daily for two weeks.
It is very important to consume medicine at the right time. The dose given to the patient must never exceed 400 mg. Doctor will prescribe the best suitable dose for you.
HOW TO TAKE THE DRUG?
Swallow the whole tablet with one glass full of water. Do not crush or chew the tablets. This medicine can be taken once in a day. It can be taken with or without food. It is best to take it at the same time each day because it shows best results and will help you remember the time to take the drug. Always take the medicine as instructed by your doctor.
FOR HOW LONG TO TAKE IT?
It is important to take the drug as directed by the doctor. Before stopping the drug intake, always consult a physician first because the sudden discontinuation of the drug may result in severe adverse reactions.
OVERDOSE:
In case of accidental over-dosage it is very necessary to contact the doctor immediately or rush to the nearest health care center.
MISS DOSE:
Take the dose as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the dose and take your next dose at the correct time. Do not double up the dose to compensate for the missed one.

Keep the medicine in a close tight container and out of reach of children

This medicine can pass into breast milk and may cause harm to the fetal damage
PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Metolar XR 25 Capsule may be prescribed alone or together with other medications. The dose and frequency will depend on what you are taking it for and the severity of your condition. It may be taken empty stomach or with a meal, but take it regularly at the same time each day to get the maximum benefit. It may take several weeks before you get the full benefit of this medicine and you may need to take it for the rest of your life. However, it is important to continue taking it even if you feel well. The main side effects of Metolar XR 25 Capsule are fatigue, headache, slow heart rate, feeling dizzy, and nausea. These are usually mild and short-lived. It may also cause shortness of breath or low blood pressure in some people. To reduce the risk of side effects your doctor will probably start the medicine at a low dose and gradually increase it.
