Description
Imax S Injection
Imax S Injection 5 ml belongs to the class of ‘iron replacement products,’ primarily used to treat iron deficiency anaemia in people with long-term kidney diseases.
Iron deficiency anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells for carrying adequate oxygen required to various body tissues due to insufficient iron.
Imax S Injection 5 ml contains ‘Iron’ sucrose that belongs to the class of ‘haematinics’. Iron is a nutritional supplement required by the red blood cells to carry oxygen to other body cells and tissues.
Injection 5 ml works by restoring the iron levels in the body. It also improves the quality of blood by increasing levels of haemoglobin (blood protein) and red blood cells.
Your doctor will decide the dosage based on your medical condition. In some cases, it may cause side effects like muscle cramps, nausea, vomiting, taste changes, diarrhoea, constipation, headache, cough, back pain, flu symptoms, joint pain, dizziness, and swelling of the arms and legs.
Most of these side effects of Injection 5 ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if these side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.
Brief your medical history to the doctor if you have any heart, liver or kidney diseases, iron overload disorders like hemochromatosis, lupus (immune disorder), low blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, and eczema before starting Imax S Injection 5 ml.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult the doctor before starting Injection 5 ml. Injection 5 ml may cause dizziness, hence drive or operate machinery with caution. Injection 5 ml is recommended in children above two years of age when prescribed by the doctor.
Imax-S Injection is an iron replacement medicine. It is used to treat a type of anemia where you have too few red blood cells because you have too little iron in your body (iron-deficiency anemia). Iron is needed to produce the red blood cells that carry oxygen around your body.
Imax-S Injection is given by slow infusion (drip) into a vein by your doctor or nurse. Your doctor will decide the dose you need and how many injections you should have to improve your anemia.
It will also help to eat a well-balanced diet that has enough iron. Good sources of iron include pulses (dal), green leafy vegetables like spinach, beans, eggs, dry fruits, and non-vegetarian foods.
The most common side effects include altered taste, hypertension (high blood pressure), nausea, and injection site reactions (such as pain, redness, and swelling). Some people may develop a temporary fall in blood pressure (hypotension) if this medicine is given too rapidly.
Your doctor will also monitor you for signs of an allergic reaction such as breathlessness, dizziness, feeling uneasy, hives, swelling of face, tongue, and throat, etc. while this medicine is being given. If you are bothered by them or they go on for longer, talk to your doctor or nurse.
You should not have this medicine if your anemia is not caused by a lack of iron. Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have rheumatoid arthritis, asthma or other allergies, high blood pressure, or liver problems. This may affect your treatment.
It is not known whether this medicine is safe for use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding so please take advice from your doctor. You will have tests to check your blood cells and iron levels, monitor your progress and check for side effects. It may be advisable to limit alcohol during treatment. Read more: Imax S

IMAX S contains Iron sucrose which belongs to the group of medicines called hematinic. It is indicated in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in both adults and in children (above 2 years) with chronic kidney disease.
It is preferably used in patients who have intolerance or unsatisfactory response to oral iron. Iron deficiency anemia is a condition in which the body lacks enough amount of mineral ion “iron” which is responsible for the formation of healthy red blood cells and oxygen transport in the body.
Systemic administration of iron sucrose effectively replenishes and restores iron in the body. It helps in the formation of healthy red blood cells and transport of oxygen, leading to the correction of anemia caused by iron deficiency.
Along with the treatment, eating a well-balanced diet including lots of green leafy vegetables, dry fruits, meat, beets, pomegranate, beans etc. can also help you to achieve better results.
This medicine is not meant for self-administration. Your doctor or nurse will administer it into your vein as an injection or infusion.
If required, it can be given along with dialysis by putting in the venous line. The most common side effects of this medicine are injection site pain, itching, irritation, redness or leakage, metallic taste and nausea. These are usually temporary and wears off after some time. However, if it bothers you, inform your doctor.
It will be given to you only by a doctor or nurse into the vein (intravenously) either as a slow injection or as an infusion drip. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have an iron-overload disorder, iron-independent anemia or liver disease.
Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. It is strictly not recommended for use in children under 18 years due to lack of data on dosing. Consult your doctor before taking.
